Honkai Impact 3rd x Neon Genesis Evangelion: Blazing Hope Limited-Time Collaboration

For the first time in Honkai history, they are having a first collaboration event titled “Blazing Hope.” What better anime show would fit the style and story of Honkai Impact 3rd other than the widely popular Neon Genesis Evangelion. That’s right, the hit 1995 classic is collaborating with miHoYo’s top gacha game for a one-time one-month event. Featuring Asuka Langley Soryu, iconic Angels, and some of the best scenes from the anime series, this event will bring a mind-blowing alternate story and some sweet goodies to collect.

What to Expect in the Event

There are two major features to look forward to in the event: Asuka as a playable Battlesuit and the new original event storyline.

Asuka is available for free-to-play as long as you grind for her fragments. But as for her spear, you will need to cash in on some crystals because you are going to need to pull for it along with Evangelion-themed Stigmatas, including Rei and Misato.

Not to spoil anything, but the story revolves around the first three episodes of Evangelion. But instead of the same characters from the show, they are replaced with Honkai characters. Mei plays Shinji’s role as the main protagonist and Himeko returns as Mei’s superior, which replaces Misato. Meanwhile, Bronya replaces Rei as the same silent character, Cocolia as Dr. Akagi, Mei’s father as Shinji’s father, and Kiana as Asuka.

So, where does Asuka fit then? Well, she plays as a girl who got teleported to an alternate world, where Honkai and Angels were fused. Mei pilots the Wotan as Asuka is there to assist the girls in gaining more knowledge about the enemies.

This event is also the longest recorded time-limited campaign in Honkai Impact 3rd ever as it started on January 21 and ends on February 21, 2021. Moreover, it has a chockful of content to unlock. Among these include a new skin for Bronya and Kiana, which are both Evangelion-themed.

It also includes some newest game modes, such as the bike challenge, which, as the name implies, is a series of time trial races using a speed bike. Additionally, you get to go big as you pilot the Wotan to defeat large enemies. On top of it all, the whole game is accompanied by the amazing official soundtrack of the hit series.

Why the Evangelion Event is a Big Deal

For quite some time since September 2020, Honkai Impact 3rd has been quickly overshadowed by another game under miHoYo’s belt: Genshin Impact. Ever since the release of Genshin, many players from all walks of life under the gacha category turned to this open-world game. Even non-gacha players got into it because of the hype and free promotions it received from live streamers and influential internet personalities.

Honkai Impact, along with Fate Grand Order, Azur Lane, Arknights, and Granblue Fantasy, suddenly became somewhat abandoned. Fortunately for Honkai, miHoYo shares the money they earned from Genshin’s microtransactions (and Genshin earning money from Honkai).

As a result, Honkai Impact 3rd has received massive new high-budget productions. This includes new anime shorts, more fluid in-game animations, better graphics, and new settings for PC players. And now, they obtained permission to collaborate on one of anime’s most iconic TV shows of all time: Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The collaboration makes very good sense that they both carry out almost the same idealism and story. This includes the “impact” of extraterrestrial beings that destroy planet earth and its inhabitants, piloting sub-human mechs, metaphors of Christianism, and the organization keeping secrets from its people.

The event was a long time coming. Now that it is here, many players have come back to the game.

On top of it all, the event has some great high-budget scenes, too, including the Angel attacks, the racing scenes, and the new levels that scale the game into broader horizons.

New Possible Collaborations?

While Evangelion may be the first collaboration in Honkai, it may bring up new ones in the future. For us, there could be several possible games and TV shows that suit well with the Honkaiverse. We might see some cool collaborations with Persona 4 or Guilty Gear. Or, we might even Genshin Impact into the mix if ever miHoYo allows it.

Now or Never

If you are still thinking if you should participate in the event, you should join up right now. HI3 was never reputable for any sort of event reruns. In fact, they barely do any reruns in the game. The only time that they repeat events are the cheap and short ones. However, we do want the summer vacation event to come back since there are still so many outfits to unlock as well as some light Visual Novel segments that we enjoyed a lot.

We’ll keep you posted for more on HI3. And while you’re here, you should try out our PC port of Honkai Impact 3rd. It’s free to play! For tips to get started with the game and how to play it on PC, check out our playing guide now.
